Sometimes, children may need a tooth removed to keep their mouth healthy and allow other teeth to grow properly. While we always do our best to save teeth, an extraction is sometimes the best choice for your child’s comfort and long-term dental health.

Why Might a Child Need an Extraction?

● A baby tooth that hasn’t fallen out and is blocking the new tooth
● Severe decay or infection that cannot be repaired
● Overcrowded teeth before braces or orthodontic treatment
● A broken tooth that cannot be restored
● Impacted or problem teeth (in older children/teens)

What Happens During the Appointment?

● We gently check your child’s tooth and may take an X-ray.
● The area is numbed so your child feels comfortable and pain-free.
● The tooth is carefully removed in a quick and safe procedure.
● We provide aftercare instructions so healing at home is smooth and easy.

Caring for Your Child After Extraction

● Encourage them to bite on the gauze to stop bleeding.
● Offer soft foods like yogurt, mashed potatoes, or soup.
● Avoid straws, spitting, or fizzy drinks for 24 hours.
● Keep the area clean and follow the dentist’s instructions.
● Mild soreness is normal and can be managed with children’s pain relief if needed.
